SUSTAINABILITY
‘We are only the trustees for those who come after us.’ William Morris
William Morris cared deeply about the environment. He was as concerned with the materials and production behind his creations as he was with their beauty and usefulness. We are working hard to honour his legacy with sustainable packaging.
William Morris at Home uses post-consumer recycled (PCR) plastic, recyclable glass bottles, aluminium tubes, vegan leather, FSC certified paper, sustainable inks and RSPO ingredients. Here is a closer look:
OUR PACKAGING
We use FSC-certified packaging for our paper and card cartons and gift boxes. FSC-certified packaging (marked with the FSC stamp) gives assurance that the wood pulp used to make the card comes from forests managed with consideration for people, wildlife and the environment.
We use vegetable and soy-based inks on our cartons. These eco-friendly inks make it easier to remove ink from packaging during the recycling process.
OUR FABRICS
We use soy-based inks on our fabrics. Soy-based inks are made using soya oil as opposed to traditional inks which are petroleum-based. Eco-friendly, soy-based inks lower the release of volatile organic compounds or VOCs as they dry. This reduces air pollutants which helps protect the environment.
THE FUTURE: SS22
We are introducing organic cotton, and fabrics made from recycled materials. New line additions include eco-grocery bags made with 100% organic cotton and a commuter kit bag crafted from 100% recycled polyester made from plastic bottles.
We are further reducing our plastic content with the innovative move to kraft paper tubes, which use 33% less plastic. We are continuing to explore ways to innovate and improve.
